Lewes Bonfire Festival

For the best bonfire night celebration in the UK you need to head to Lewes. The town takes this event very seriously and puts on quite a show. The event is organised by local bonfire societies of which there are seven.

The societies each have a particular uniform and they take part in a torchlit parade through the town's streets. Bangers are let off on the parade route which are so loud that spectacters cover their ears and vibrations can be felt through the floor.

Once the parade is over each society makes its way to its bonfire site where the spectactors are treated to huge bonfires, burning effigies and spectacular firework displays.
